We are pleased to announce that MISTER BEACH MUSIC and good friend of The Tams throughout his long career – HARRY TURNER will be the Master of Ceremonies for the induction ceremony.
If you are not familiar with Harry Turner then you must not know about Carolina Beach Music as Harry is MISTER BEACH MUSIC!
I believe I first met Harry when he was deejaying one of our church singles’s dances. Harry did more than spin the records – he told the STORIES behind the singer or group. I loved it as I LOVE a good STORY. So I decided to introduce myself to Harry and we have been close friends now for over 25 years!
Harry had been a deejay in Spartanburg, South Carolina and lifetime fanatic of Carolina Beach Music. He also was a promoter of the music and is still today. He is the author of This Magic Moment. As a native of South Carolina, Harry was instrumental in getting the state legislators and governor to declare BEACH MUSIC the Official Popular Music of South Carolina.
So every year there is a big celebration in Columbia at the State Capitol building honoring Beach Music as one of America’s Music genres. I was fortunate to be at the first one and got to meet Maurice Williams who sang his classic Beach Music song – Stay.
More about Harry in next post!
I thought you might like to see and hear some of the FUN UPBEAT music from the legendary TAMS!
(This video is the second generation of The Tams I believe. It’s probably shaky because the videographer was most likely dancing too!)
We NEED this UPBEAT HAPPY music today!
Who are THE TAMS?
As far as I know they are the ONLY American music group performing today that are in their THIRD generation as THE TAMS!
There are so called SECOND generation groups performing as the ORIGINAL group but many of them have NO member who was part of the ORIGINAL group like the THIRD generation Tams have with the GRANDCHILDREN!
I first heard of The Tams back in 1965 when they played their UPBEAT R&B music throughout the South and even in the area of Wake Forest University where my fraternity brothers use to rave about them. After hearing their 45s in the frat house I became a LIFE LONG fan of The Tams!
While in Atlanta in the early 80s my partner Jimmy Faulkner and I put on the Great American Footrace and we had The Tams perform for us at our big event. My next association with The Tams was when my friend and author of This Magic Moment, Harry Turner and Mike Campbell, produced the 40th year tribute to another legendary R&B group – The Original Drifters.
My co-founder partner and I got to know the wife of one of the founding members of The Tams, Diane Pope, while working with our Southern Music Association. She gave me a Tams CD which I cherish.
My co-founder partner, Ron Rich, just told me that The Tams have in the past few years played at events in Clayton, Georgia.
Add up the years between 1965 when I learned of The Tams to 2016 and just in my love affair with this legendary group there are 51 YEARS!
So I just spoke to Edna Snowden in Atlanta who has been inspirational in keeping the music of groups like The Tams in front of especially the Atlanta music scene and she was thrilled with our decision to induct The Tams.
We discussed an October 2016 time frame for the induction ceremony in Atlanta.
In the next post I will share more about this legendary R&B group.
Yes we have been busy with other projects but now it’s time to get back to this over 35 year project! Previously it was just the Southern Music HOF & Museum but we expanded to cover all 50 US states.
We also decided to forgo opening a PHYSICAL facility because of the trend towards Virtual Reality 3D.
I found a project in Europe that offers an Open Source software and contacted their forum about our project.
Hopefully they will want to work with two senior citizens have NO CLUE how to set this up! We are willing to do the Marketing as that is our specialty.
Yes currently two Saint Louis, Missouri malls have expressed interest in us locating a 10,000 square feet facility within the mall.
Here are renderings done by my new architectural graphics artist Kyle.
This one depicts the use of Augmented Reality with the USA map on the right. When you point the smart phone to the wall you see places pop up on your smart phone of other American Music facilities.
On the right you see a hologram example.
Finally here you see an example on the left of the video wall we will be using. In the background you see smaller video displays. They are all tied into Bluetooth on your smart phone.
